RALEIGH, N.C. — Runners and walkers will hit the pavement over the weekend in honor of a Raleigh police officer killed in the line of duty.

Detective Paul Hale was shot in a parking lot on Lenoir Street 10 years ago while questioning a murder suspect.

Hale was an avid runner, so his daughters organized a 5k run\walk in his memory. The run begins at 8 a.m. Saturday at the Bedford at Falls River Recreation Center in Raleigh.

Proceeds from the run will raise money for The 200 Club of Wake County -- an organization that provides financial assistance to the families of fallen law officers and emergency workers.
