ERWIN, N.C. — A Harnett County mother was charged Friday after her baby was exposed to fentanyl.

Deputies responded to a home after a 10-month-old baby boy who was taken to a hospital in critical condition. The child was treated with Narcan until his breathing stabilized.

When investigators searched the home, they discovered "a white powdery substance scattered on the bed" where the child was found passed out. The substance was tested and identified as fentanyl.

Adrian Deanna Moore, 32, of Erwin, was arrested and charged with felony negligent child abuse with serious bodily injury and possession of a schedule II controlled substance.

Moore was being held on a $225,000 bond in the Harnett County Detention Center. The baby remains hospitalized in a pediatric care unit at Cape Fear Valley Medical Center.

Last month, a 28-year-old Spring Lake mom was charged with felony negligent child abuse after deputies found her 1-year-old son unconscious and not breathing. CPR was performed before EMS arrived, and the child regained consciousness once paramedics administered Narcan, used to treat narcotic overdoses in emergencies.
