Erwin man dies in I-95 crash
An Erwin man died and his mother was injured Wednesday afternoon in a collision on Interstate 95 near Benson.
Posted — UpdatedAccording to the North Carolina State Highway Patrol, Jovan Jerome Gayle, 28, was headed northbound and clipped a car as he tried to change lanes. He swerved, lost control and his vehicle flipped into the southbound lanes, troopers said.
Gayle died at the scene. His passenger, his mother Sandra Farrington, was airlifted to WakeMed.
Traffic on the highway was backed up for about an hour, and troopers reported two other fender benders within the backup. Neither of those resulted in any injuries.
