'My father's doing great:' Eric Trump talks about election, his father's health at campaign stop

Eric Trump was at a machine shop in Whitsett Thursday evening. It was one of the first in-person campaign rallies since President Trump tested positive for COVID-19 last week.

Speaking in a one-on-one interview with WRAL, the president's son said it’s never easy watching his dad being flown to Walter Reed hospital. On Thursday, Dr. Sean Conley, President Donald Trump's physician, said the president remains "stable and devoid of any indications to suggest progression" of his coronavirus infection. As a result, Conley said he anticipates Trump to be able to return to public engagements by Saturday, 10 days after he tested positive for the virus.

"My father's doing great," Eric Trump said. "He got hit hard (last) Friday, and when people get hit by COVID, sometimes they get hit hard.

"He quarantines for a couple more days, just to make sure everything’s perfect, and he’s gonna be back on the road."

Hundreds of Trump supporters, many without masks, filled the grass at Machine Services.

"We’re workers and we don’t believe in sitting in a basement and doing zoom calls from a basement," Eric Trump said.

Supporters said they didn’t want to miss the event, despite the pandemic.

"He won’t let some little bug take me with what I’ve been through," said Trump supporter Bennie Leach. "I ain’t worried about it."

Eric Trump stressed the significance the state could mean for the election, now less than a month away.

"North Carolina’s probably the most important state in the country. People have to get out there and vote," Eric Trump said.

Also on Thursday, Joe Biden's campaign held a virtual round table with Reggie Love on their plans to elevate Black leaders.

Donald Trump Jr., the president's oldest child, will be in Fayetteville this Saturday.
