<b>RALEIGH, N.C.</b> — Wake County schools Superintendent Tony Tata expressed congratulations to Garner student and "American Idol" winner Scotty McCreery on Friday. 

"We are all very proud of Scotty and all that he represents. He is a role model for all students and, indeed, for all of us, as he has demonstrated poise, courage and taken under pressure," Tata said. 

McCreery, 17, is a student at Garner Magnet High School.
