<b>CARY, N.C.</b> — Capitol Broadcasting's President and CEO Jim Goodmon and his wife, Barbara, received the Volunteers of the Year award from the United Way during a ceremony in Cary on Thursday night.

The Goodmons participated in a number of service projects and fundraising events during the past year, including hosting Durham's first community Christmas Tree Challenge in December.

During the challenge, 50 nonprofit groups decorated 8-foot trees to promote their organizations. The winner received $5,000.
