I'm meteorologist Kat Campbell in the Wral Severe Weather center, we had a record breaking 101 degrees today at RDU Airport. 99 was the previous record set back in 1997. A lot of upper nineties surrounding that climate site there. We had 99 in Fayetteville today. Not quite to the record there, at least. Uh Their record high today was 106. The big heats back tomorrow 100 degrees. Again on Tuesday, the heat index should exceed 101 and there or 105, I should say. And there will be another heat advisory effect for much of the viewing area on Tuesday, Wednesday, 98 degrees. The heat index could near 110. It's going to be miserably humid out there, but notice how the heat backs off by the end of the week. Friday and Saturday's highs are in the mid eighties. So we are going to get a bit of relief from the heat in a much needed pattern. That's on the way. Not only is it going to be less hot, it's also going to be a wetter pattern setting up which is good news. We still need some additional rainfall. A cold front will arrive later this week and that front is going to get stuck in North Carolina and with a stalled front, combining with tropical moisture, we're going to really start to see the coverage of showers and storms each day blossom on the radar. That's good news. There could be some localized flooding and the most widespread rain is expected at the end of the work week, forecast rainfall just over the next five days. And keep in mind the numbers are going to be even higher. If you go out in an entire week would be about 1 to 3 inches of rain. And we're under that same flood risk that we were last Friday when we saw the flash flooding, a scattered flood threat again for Thursday. Thursday's rain chances are high. We have an 80% chance for rain on Thursday tomorrow and Wednesday, it's gonna be more scattered thunderstorms, but any storms that could develop, could have gusty winds as well as heavy rain. Thursday is really gonna bring that highest heavy rain threat. And then we've got good rain chances through the weekend. A 70% chance for rain on Saturday. So I would keep watering your garden Tuesday and Wednesday because it's just gonna be so hot out there. But once we get to the end of the week, you should get a break from the sprinklers and all the watering out there 100 degrees again, Tuesday. But by the time we get to Thursday, we begin to see changes and Friday all the way through Monday of next week, we've got four days in a row to look forward to with high temperatures back in the eighties compared to our nine triple digit days we've had so far this year, the eighties should be pretty nice out there.

And come November. I plan on being the first black governor of North Carolina, but I am not one of the political elite. I grew up poor as the ninth of 10 kids in Greensboro with an alcoholic father who beat my mother. I love to tell you that I graduated from high school found success. Never worried about money again, but I can't. I lost two jobs, two manufacturing jobs because of NAFTA which by the way, Joe Biden voted for politicians in DC. Made bad decisions and people like me suffered. I lost my car in my house. I was desperate. But you know, my story isn't unique. A couple of months ago in my travels, I stopped at a gas station as I was leaving a man walked out with a beard and he looked very stressed. He got in his car and I could see him holding an envelope, my heart dropped because years ago I held one just like it. It was bankruptcy papers. I could see the fear on his face and it took me back to lying awake at night with that non worrying debating which bills weren't going to get paid. Unfortunately. Many families today are having that same experience under Joe Biden, grocery prices have skyrocketed and gas has nearly doubled in North Carolina factories just like the one I worked at are closing, leaving families feeling hopeless but there is hope and I'm proof my wife and I never gave up. We kept our faith. We worked hard and made it through those tough times. Now, I stand before you on the verge of becoming the first black governor of North Carolina as governor. I will not forget where I came from or the struggles of the people I meet. And you know, there's someone else who will fight just as hard for you. President Donald J Trump, the brave heart of our time. President Trump has our, had our economy roaring gas was up below $2. Unemployment was at a historic low people could afford homes and we had a president who protected manufacturing jobs under President Trump. THE ARGUMENT IS SURPRISING IN THE SENSE THAT WE'VE ALL BEEN TALKING ABOUT IMMUNITY FOR THE LAST COUPLE WEEKS, THE SUPREME COURT'S DECISION THERE. THIS IS NOT BASED, REALLY, ON IMMUNITY, IT'S BASED ON THE APPOINTMENTS CLAUSE OF THE CONSTITUTION AND ALSO THE APPROPRIATIONS CLAUSE, WHICH THE COURT DIDN'T EVEN REACH, BUT IMPLIED THAT THAT WOULD BE A GROUNDS FOR TOSSING THE CASE AS WELL. AND THE BOTTOM LINE IS THIS, THE APPOINTMENTS CLAUSE REQUIRES, IN THE CONSTITUTION, THAT SOMEONE LIKE JACK SMITH, ACCORDING TO THE COURT, BE APPOINTED BY THE DOJ, OR BY THE EXECUTIVE BRANCH, BUT IT MUST BE CONFIRMED BY THE SENATE. AND SO THE ARGUMENT THERE IS THAT THIS VIOLATES THAT PORTION OF THE CONSTITUTION BECAUSE JACK SMITH WAS NOT APPOINTED THROUGH THIS PROCEDURE AND THE JUDGE ESSENTIALLY SAYS, THERE'S A WAY TO DO THIS. YOU CAN APPOINT JACK SMITH THE WAY ALL U.S. ATTORNEYS ARE APPOINTED. &gt;&gt; DANNY, THE SPECIAL COUNSEL, IF HE WANTS TO, COULD TRY TO APPEAL THIS RULING NOW TO THE 11th CIRCUIT, THE FEDERAL APPEALS COURT, BUT GIVEN HOW THINGS ARE GOING, GIVEN THE TIMING ISSUES, THIS, OF COURSE, HAS NO HOPE OF ANY RESOLUTION BEFORE THE ELECTION. &gt;&gt; IT HAD LITTLE HOPE OF GETTING TO TRIAL BEFORE THE ELECTION, NOW IT HAS ZERO CHANCE BECAUSE THE -- WHOEVER APPEALS, OBVIOUSLY THE JACK SMITH TEAM WILL APPEAL AND YES, IT WILL GO UP TO THE CIRCUIT COURT. I EXPECT THIS IS GOING TO GO PRETTY QUICKLY TO THE SUPREME COURT, BUT HOWEVER QUICKLY IT GOES TO THE SUPREME COURT WILL NOT BE QUICKLY ENOUGH FOR THE ELECTION. NOW, I SAY THAT, AND AS YOU KNOW, LAURA, FEDERAL COURTS HAVE A LOT OF POWER, CIRCUIT COURTS CAN PUT THINGS ON HIGH SPEED IN A WAY THEY CAN'T IN OTHER CASES, IT'S THEORETICALLY THIS COULD BE DECIDED IN A MATTER OF WEEKS BUT IT WILL NOT BE IN ALL LIKELIHOOD IF DONALD TRUMP IS ELECTED THIS FEDERAL CASE IS LIKELY OVER AND MAYBE THE OTHER FEDERAL CASE AGAINST DONALD TRUMP IN D.C. AS A RESULT, AT LEAST TANGENTIALLY OF THIS DECISION, EVEN THOUGH THIS DECISION HAS NO PRECEDENT THERE, NO CONTROLLING VALUE OVER JUDGE CHUTKAN IN D.C. NBC Special Report: Judge dismissed Trump classified docs case

Milwaukee Mayor Cavalier Johnson hosts a news conference outside City Hall to share information about public safety before the Republican National Convention begins. He will also comment on political matters, including issues likely to arise during convention activities.

<p>And I have faith and confidence as well in the secret service in the Milwaukee Police Department and other law enforcement agencies that are providing public safety here today. Going to be in this moment. I know you said you want to get President Biden re elected. It's going to be harder to get re elected. He's not making that case. I think that the president is showcasing leadership in this moment. Look what happened on Saturday was very big. It was a very big moment for the United States, right? There was an attempted assassination, not just the former president, but the presumptive nominee on the Republican side, one of the major parties in this country. And so President Joe Biden, because of the compassionate human being that he is, is working to make sure that we don't forget this moment and calling Americans to come together because really at the end of the day, we're all a part of the same American family that being said there is a political contest that's happening right now. And although the president may not be engaging in political activity in this specific moment in light of what's happened, I've got no doubt that those things will continue. Obviously, the Democratic National Convention will take place in Chicago next month and the president will have the opportunity to showcase the difference between his policies, what he's done, what he intends to do for the United States and his people in the future. And I'm looking forward to going to Chicago as a delegate to the DNC supporting President Joe Biden for renomination and then seeing it through in November that he wins, not just in Milwaukee, but in Wisconsin and re election as president of the United States, the media reconsideration of the weapons policy, obviously, your hands are kind of tied the state law and then you support that call. I mean, look, I've said that nausea as the mayor of the city, as the leader of the city, that there are far too many people, too many people who have access to deadly weapons, who should not have access to deadly weapons, right? It's far too easy to access those guns for people who should not have them. I mean, I think about, you know, some felons, domestic abusers, people with long criminal histories. When people have access to those weapons, they use those weapons then to commit death or harm or destruction in neighborhoods across Milwaukee across Wisconsin and obviously elsewhere in the United States as well. So if there is an opportunity if there were an opportunity for us to be able to restrict access to those weapons especially in an event like this, I would have loved to see something like that. However, and as you indicate, state law supersedes local ordinances. So we can't even pass anything that would prohibit the use or the access of those guns in this soft security perimeter that we have in the city of Milwaukee. So would I like to see that? Yes, but unfortunately, state law has supremacy here in Wisconsin. Last question. Hey, mayor, uh you mentioned two relatively minor uh public safety incidents around the RNC last night. How overall, how do you judge and evaluate, you know, whether public safety for the event would not say the last part? Again, how would you just evaluate whether or not the public safety approach for the event is as uh uh a again, I think that uh the secret service, the Maui Police Department, you know, other law enforcement agencies have worked diligently on public safety planning relative to the RNC, the Moe Police Department. And the police chief, Jeffrey Norman has talked about the goal of law enforcement here as much as they can be. I mean, obviously they're very visible but it's to be invisible. It's to not have to interact with folks who are participating in this convention one way or another. So my desire will be for people to make sure that they attend the event that they're peaceful that they take into account, not just their own rights, but the rights of other individuals who are themselves and their political views here and not have interactions with law enforcement, resulting in arrests or things like that. I think those are things that help us to get to success. Now, I mentioned some of the things last night where there were some arrests, some individuals had a drink or two too much. They were intoxicated and then end up having some interaction with police. But that I think again is routine and really uneventful. Thank you. Thank you. I got it. OK. Yeah. OK. So do one side.</p>
