Missing Malcolm X Writings, Long a Mystery, Are Sold

The manuscript for the unpublished “Autobiography of Malcolm X” shows the push and pull of editing between Malcolm X and Alex Haley, his collaborator, at the Guernsey auction house in New York, July 25, 2018. The possible existence of three unpublished chapters, reputedly cut from the manuscript after Malcolm X’s assassination in 1965 because they were deemed too incendiary, has been a source of intrigue, and now one of the chapters has surfaced in an auction of African-American historical artifacts.
