Charting Box Office Success

Posted February 26, 2008 7:28 a.m. EST

We'll continue with our movie theme for one more day.

Here's a great interactive chart from The New York Times, looking at box office receipts over the past 20 years or so.

This is how it works: Each wavy piece on the graph is a different film.  The height of the piece shows weekly box office revenue.  The width shows the longevity of the film's success.  The area of each piece shows the total box office revenue.

You can click on a colored piece to see more about the movie or use the search box to find a particular film.  You also can use the slider to move along the timeline.

I'm impressed!
