Firefighting 101

Posted April 23, 2007 12:39 p.m. EDT

So, a guy in New Jersey lights a Christmas tree on fire yesterday.

He did it in the middle of the afternoon.  As an experienced bonfire attendee, I can tell you that the best time to light a dry Christmas tree is after dark.  It's a spectacular show.  Why do it in daylight?

Anyway, the tree fire soon became a small brush fire.  He tried to stomp it out -- in flip-flops.  Bad, bad idea.

The flames spread to the woods and burned about 10,000 square feet.

Fortunately for the guy, he remains unidentified this morning as he recovers from minor burns.
