Gabriele Davanzante knows Italian cuisine. He was born in Barletta, a town in southern Italy along the Adriatic Sea. Davanzante's dedication to his heritage is part of the soul of his latest restaurant venture Enrigo Italian Bistro, located in Waverly Place in Cary.

The bistro serves fresh pasta, pizza and other iconic Italian fare. Chef Meri Serpillo is from Tuscany, so she tries to keep that tradition in her sauces, desserts and specialties.

WRAL's Out & About took a trip to Enrigo recently to get a feel for the menu and environment.

The doors open for a nice patio view on spring or summer days.

Waverly Place is inviting enough in the Spring, but Enrigo takes it to a new level with its glass windows which open to allow patrons to dine al fresco. Perfect for a warm day.

The menu has traditional favorites. Our team particularly loved the Coccoli con Prosciutto & Strachinno - lightly fried dough with prosciutto di Parma & strachinno cheese. The portion is large and as it should be for $11.99.

This selection of cheese, fried dough and meats left the Out and About team asking for more.

Owners say the focus on reasonable portion sizes and quality ingredients with pasta made fresh in house each day. They also make their thin and crispy pizzas from house-made dough. The pizza and tiramisu, each had our O&A crew wanting more.
