RALEIGH, N.C. — An Enloe High School student who collapsed during a cross-country race is home from the hospital.

Enloe senior Stuart Jones had been in critical condition at WakeMed. He suffered heat stroke during a cross-country meet at Sanderson High School on Aug. 22.

Jones was found collapsed off the course during a 3.1-mile race, which went behind Sanderson and through the woods of Optimist Park. Temperatures were in the low 90s when the race began.

Jones' sickness has prompted Wake County athletics officials to discuss whether to install more stringent guidelines for events held in hot conditions.
