Hospital staff and other essential workers can apply now for emergency child care assistance.

The state issued guidance on the program to child care providers Wednesday and asked them to make application forms available at their facilities.

Workers can get free emergency child care for April and May, if they meet income limits.

The application lists these worker categories:

  • Emergency staff, first responders and public safety officers
  • Hospital staff and front-line healthcare providers
  • Nursing and adult group home staff
  • Child care program staff
  • Food service staff

There's also a category for "other employees working to keep our communities safe and healthy."

Forms should be filled out and submitted to the family's child care provider.

The state also has a hotline for workers who need child care: 1-888-600-1685. The hotline is open Monday through Friday 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
