Editorial: NC Republicans in US House empower a liar, his insurrectionists
Friday, Jan. 8, 2021 -- There are seven members of Congress from North Carolina who -- evidenced by their votes to falsely claim that ballots cast in Pennsylvania and Arizona were illegitimate - tell the world they're in league with the serial liar who is our president and the thugs who rampaged through the Capitol. In the view of these N.C. Republicans, the votes cast for president in those two states were not legitimate. What do they think it says of the votes that elected the eight members of the U.S. House from Arizona and 18 from Pennsylvania?
Posted — UpdatedPoliticians can say a lot. Still the best and only way to judge those that hold office is by what they do.
For those North Carolina politicians who are members of the U.S. Congress, they can say all they want about the treasonous events of Wednesday but it is how they voted that says where they stand. Through their support and their votes, they own the disasters of Donald Trump’s presidency. They are in league with his lies and fakery.
Talk is cheap and hollow. Action – voting to falsely claim that ballots cast in Pennsylvania and Arizona were illegitimate – tell the world they’re in league with the serial liar who is our president and the thugs who rampaged through the Capitol.
In the view of these North Carolina Republicans the votes cast for president in those two states were not legitimate. What do they think it says of the votes that elected the eight members of the U.S. House from Arizona and 18 from Pennsylvania?
What makes the votes cast for president in those states less legitimate than those cast for their members of the U.S. House? Even more astonishing and hypocritical than Bishop and those from North Carolina who joined him, are the votes by three Republicans from Arizona against the electors in their state and the votes by eight Pennsylvania Republicans against electors in their state. What possibly could make the votes that landed them in Congress be any more or less honest than votes in their state for Joe Biden?
How can Bishop and the others who opposed the presidential ballots in Arizona and Pennsylvania tolerate having members of the House, put in office by the same supposedly tainted election, sit and vote beside them?
The only logical conclusion is that Bishop; Budd; Cawthorn; Foxx; Hudson; Murphy; and Rouzer really don’t have any rational, evidence-based reason for their actions. They, like the mutinous swarm that overran the Capitol, don’t honor the Constitution. They don’t believe in American democracy.
They are only in it for themselves.
That, tragically, is the real mark of illegitimacy. They have failed those they represent and the Constitution they’ve sworn to uphold.
They are the ones who’s place in office should be questioned and challenged.
