Edgecombe superintendent to retire
Wayne Talley, superintendent of the Edgecombe County Public Schools, told his staff Monday morning that he plans to resign his position, effective Sept. 30.

The Edgecombe County Board of Education was expected to accept Talley's resignation and consider how to move forward at a meeting Wednesday, spokeswoman Lauren Edmondson said.
Talley came to Edgecombe County last summer from Avery County. He has worked as a teacher, football coach, athletic director, assistant principal and principal.
He holds a doctorate in education from Nova Southeastern University in Florida and has North Carolina Superintendent Certificate. He is a member of both the North Carolina Association of School Administrators and the Principal-Assistant Principal Association.
