Edgecombe superintendent to retire
Wayne Talley, superintendent of the Edgecombe County Public Schools, told his staff Monday morning that he plans to resign his position, effective Sept. 30.Posted — Updated
Talley cited health concerns for his decision.
The Edgecombe County Board of Education was expected to accept Talley's resignation and consider how to move forward at a meeting Wednesday, spokeswoman Lauren Edmondson said.
Talley came to Edgecombe County last summer from Avery County. He has worked as a teacher, football coach, athletic director, assistant principal and principal.
He holds a doctorate in education from Nova Southeastern University in Florida and has North Carolina Superintendent Certificate. He is a member of both the North Carolina Association of School Administrators and the Principal-Assistant Principal Association.
