WILSON, N.C. — An East Carolina University graduate student died Monday in a wreck in Wilson County, police said.

Amanda Kelly, 24, of Ontario, Canada, was eastbound on U.S. Highway 264 Bypass at about 8:20 a.m. when her 2000 Ford Taurus ran off the right side of the highway near Black Creek Road, police said. Investigators said they believe Kelly over-corrected, and the Taurus crossed the median and went into the westbound lanes.

The Taurus collided head-on with a 2006 Chevrolet Silverado driven by Johnnie Page III, 31, of Sims, police said. Kelly was killed in the wreck, and Page was treated at Wilson Medical Center for his injuries and released.

Traffic was rerouted off westbound U.S. 264 Bypass onto Black Creek Road for five hours while police investigated the wreck and cleared the highway.
