RALEIGH, N.C. — Easter Sunday is off to a chilly start, but temperatures should warm into the mid 60s by late afternoon.

Anyone headed out to church, brunch or other events on Sunday morning will appreciate a jacket.

According to WRAL meteorologist Peta Sheerwood, temperatures were in the mid 40s around 8 a.m., and they won't climb into the 60s until 2 or 3 p.m.

Although Easter will be mild and cloudy, rain is not expected to be a big issue. There is a chance for a sprinkle in the afternoon, but for the most part, the day will be dry.

Since it won't be hot, it will be great weather for Easter egg hunts, said Sheerwood.

The week ahead will be warmer and mostly sunny, with highs in the 70s for Monday and the 80s mid-week. Wednesday has the potential to be the warmest day of 2019 so far, with a forecast high of 84 degrees in Raleigh.

A chance for rain and storms returns for Thursday and the weekend, but temperatures will stay warm, in the 70s and 80s.
