KNIGHTDALE, N.C. — In a normal year, the Easter Bunny would be popping up all over the Triangle about now — sitting for pictures at local malls, hiding eggs at massive community egg hunts and meeting and greeting fans. But with a statewide stay-at-home order in place to prevent the continued transmission of the coronavirus, those Easter traditions can't happen like they usually do this year.

But Knightdale has found a way to bring a little Easter joy to its residents. From 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., Thursday, April 9, the Easter Bunny will be making the rounds to some of the town's neighborhoods. He'll be riding in a parks and recreation town truck, guided by the Knightdale police department and fire department, for a mini "Bunny Hop Parade." It will begin at Harper Park, continue down First Avenue and then move along through subdivisions.

To stay in line with the state's social distancing order, the bunny will not stop, but will slowly drive by, waving to all children along the way, according to a press release. The bunny's arrival will be announced with police and fire department sirens and horns.

Here are the bunny's estimated times of arrival, which depend on traffic and other variables:

  • 9:15 a.m.: Knightdale Station – Silverliner, Carolinian, Sunland, Heartland Flyer, Twin Star, Silver Comet
  • 9:35 a.m.: Emerald Point – Aquamarine, Gem, Zircon
  • 9:45 a.m.: Beaver Dam – Knollcrest, Allendown, Hinton View, Hope Valley

  • 10:40 a.m.: Princeton Manor – Princeton View, Peachtree Town
  • 10:50 a.m.: Mingo Creek – Mingo Bluff
  • 11:20 a.m.: Cheswick – Ranchester, Hauser Lake, Lena
  • 11:30 a.m.:  Churchill – Churchhill Glen, Twin Spires, Sunday Silence, Old Rosebud
  • 11:40 a.m.:  Glenmere off Smithfield Road – Poplar Summit, Spruce Pine, Highland Ridge
  • 11:45 a.m.: Glenmere off Fayetteville Road – Cedar Pond

  • 12:10 p.m.: Sycamore to Second Street
  • 12:20 p.m.: Carrington Woods – Crosstree, Balaster, St. John, Southhampton, Brookfield, Carrington

It will end at Harper Park.

Knightdale isn't the only local town to spread a little cheer this week. On Monday, Wake Forest launched its #StayStrongWF spirit week, encouraging families to have a little fun with daily themes.
