Early voting underway for October municipal elections

Early voting began Wednesday in Raleigh, Cary, Durham, Fayetteville and about 20 other cities statewide that have municipal elections or primaries in October.

RALEIGH, N.C. — Early voting began Wednesday in Raleigh, Cary, Durham, Fayetteville and about 20 other cities statewide that have municipal elections or primaries in October.

In Raleigh, six people are running to succeed Mayor Nancy McFarlane, and all five single-member districts and the two at-large seats on the City Council also are up for grabs. Cary Mayor Harold Weinbrecht faces opposition in his re-election bid, and three people are vying for the District D seat on the Town Council.

Voters can cast early ballots at the following Wake County locations:

  • ​Glen Eden Pilot Park Neighborhood Center, 1500 Glen Eden Drive in Raleigh
  • Green Road Community Center, 4201 Green Road in Raleigh
  • ​Herbert C. Young Community Center, 101 Wilkinson Ave. in Cary
  • Method Road Community Center, 514 Method Road in Raleigh
  • ​Millbrook Exchange Community Center, 1905 Spring Forest Road in Raleigh
  • Roberts Park Community Center, 1300 E. Martin St. in Raleigh
  • Wake County Office Building, 337 S. Salisbury St. in Raleigh

Hours at the Wake County Office Building are 8:30 a.m. to 5:15 p.m. weekdays. Hours at all other locations are 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. weekdays, 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturdays and 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. Sundays.

Durham and Fayetteville both have primaries in October, followed by a general election in November.

In Durham the primary will narrow the field for three at-large seats on the City Council. Fayetteville's primary is solely for the District 2 and District 6 seats on City Council.

Early voting runs through Oct. 4, and Election Day is Oct. 8.
