Durham woman says she shot man looking in her window

Police say a Durham woman opened fire at a man who was peeking in her windows Tuesday morning.

DURHAM, N.C. — Police say a Durham woman opened fire at a man who was peeking in her windows Tuesday morning.

"I just shot somebody who tried to break into my house," the woman told a 911 dispatcher. "He’s about to get up. I’m about to shoot him again."

"Don’t do that," the dispatcher replied. "The police are coming. When they show up, put the gun down."

Police officers responded to her home, in the 2600 block of Glenbrook Drive before, near East Club Boulevard, before 5 a.m.

Man seriously injured in Durham shooting

She told police that she caught the man looking inside her windows around 4 a.m., when it was still dark outside.

The man, whom police haven't identified, was taken to Duke University Hospital with critical injuries, but police said he was stable at 6 a.m.

Police were investigating the shooting to make sure the woman's story checked out.
