Durham Public Schools will host its annual magnet fair from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., Saturday, at Southern School of Energy and Sustainability, 800 Clayton Rd., Durham.

You can drop in at any time during the event to learn more about Durham's magnet school offerings at the elementary, middle and high school levels. School staff will be on hand to answer questions about magnet theme offerings and other topics. Representatives also will be on site from student assignment, magnet, transportation and other school departments.

Nearly half of all of Durham's public schools are magnets, offering special programming, small sizes or year-round calendars. DPS's website has more information about the system's magnet programs. An online flier has details about Saturday's event.
As I wrote about last week, Wake County Public School System also will hold its annual magnet and early college fair this weekend. The Wake fair is 9 a.m. to noon, Saturday, at Southeast Raleigh Magnet High School, 2600 Rock Quarry Rd., Raleigh.
