Durham police seek man wanted for series of break-ins

— Durham police were seeking the public's help in trying to locate a man who is accused of breaking into a house and several vehicles over the past six weeks.

Leander Lawrence Jr., 48, is charged with breaking into a house on Drew Street on Aug. 10 and breaking into six vehicles at Excel Auto Inc. on Ramseur Street on Sept. 19, police said.

Lawrence is charged with one count of breaking and entering, one count of larceny after breaking and entering, one count of felony conspiracy, six counts of breaking and entering to vehicles, seven counts of injury to property, one count of trespassing and two counts of felony larceny, police said. He is also wanted for parole violations on previous charges including being a habitual offender.

Police said Lawrence frequents the areas of East Club Boulevard, Hopkins Street, Brick House Lane, East Main Street and the homeless shelter on Liberty Street.
