Durham police officer hurt in UTV mishap

A Durham police officer was rushed for treatment to a local hospital after the officer was hurt Tuesday while riding an UTV, authorities said.

DURHAM, N.C. — A Durham police officer was listed in serious but stable condition after he was hurt Tuesday while riding a utility terrain vehicle, authorities said.

The incident occurred around 3:30 p.m. at the Durham Police Range, located at 7615 Cassam Road in Bahama, police said in a written statement. The officer was on-duty when his UTV left the gravel road and overturned on a gravel road at the police range, authorities said.

The officer was rushed to a local hospital for treatment after the accident. Police declined to identify the officer but said the accident is under investigation by the department's Traffic Services Unit, which is standard protocol.
