DURHAM, N.C. — Durham police are looking for a 42-year-old man charged with kidnapping, robbery with a dangerous weapon and a first-degree sexual offense.

Vonzell Speight, of no known address, was also charged Thursday with first-degree burglary, communicating threats and assault with a deadly weapon.

The charges stemmed from a sexual assault that occurred early Thursday on Dacian Avenue, police said.

A woman told officers she woke up around 4:40 a.m. and saw a man in her room. The man, who was armed with a knife, sexually assaulted her and took her wallet and jewelry. Investigators believe he entered the victim’s apartment through a back door.

Anyone with information on Speight's whereabouts is asked to call Investigator J.R. Salmon at 560-4582, ext. 226 or CrimeStoppers at 683-1200. Crime Stoppers pays cash rewards for information leading to arrest in felony cases and callers never have to identify themselves.
