Durham police involved in shooting
Durham police say two people were taken into custody Monday after one of them rammed a van into a police vehicle and was shot in the arm by an officer.
Posted — UpdatedIt happened around 1:40 p.m., as police were responding to a report of a larceny in progress at the Home Depot on North Pointe Drive, police department spokeswoman Kammie Michael said.
One of the suspects was arrested at the scene, but the other got into a van and rammed the vehicle before fleeing the scene.
The van crashed a short time later at the intersection of Duke and Corporation streets, Michael said, and the driver was taken to Duke University Hospital for treatment of what appeared to be non-life-threatening injuries.
The State Bureau of Investigation and the Durham Police Department's Professional Standards Division are investigating, which is standard procedure when an officer is involved in a shooting.
