DURHAM, N.C. — Durham police officers were at the scene of a shooting Friday, at least the eighth reported in the city in a week.

Before 12:30 a.m., officers responded to a shooting at a gas station in the area of Horton Road and North Duke Street, not far from Duke Regional Hospital.

Police tweeted about the shooting at 1:30 a.m.

A clerk who works at the gas station said she heard the shots being fired just minutes after arriving to work. She said the shots may have been fired from a passing car.

A police officer said one person was injured, and they drove a couple miles down the road to a police substation to get help. The person is expected to be okay.

At least three other people were seriously hurt in shootings this week in Durham, and three other people died from their injuries.

On Monday, an 18-year-old was found shot inside a car in the area of Lincoln Street and Linwood Avenue. He was taken to a nearby hospital, where he died.
Also on Monday, a woman said her brother shot and killed her boyfriend after a road rage incident at the corner of Underwood and Jackson streets.

Police also found a 48-year-old man dead in the roadway at the intersection of Liberty and Elm streets.

Durham police have not connected any of the shootings, but anyone with information is asked to call the Durham Police Department at 919-560-4427.
