Durham Police Investigate Shooting

A Durham man was charged Wednesday with shooting another man.

DURHAM, N.C. — A Durham man was charged Wednesday with shooting another man.

Officers responded to the 1200 block of South Roxboro Street at about noon. They were told that shots were fired and the shooters had fled in a blue Ford Expedition.

A few minutes later, officers spotted a blue Ford Expedition near Cornwallis and Chapel Hill roads and attempted to stop it. The vehicle sped away. Officers chased the Expedition for a few blocks before it crashed on Jersey Avenue.

The occupants jumped out and ran, but officers were able to arrest Syron Townsend. The 20-year-old was charged with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury.

The 30-year-old shooting victim underwent surgery at Duke University Hospital. He was listed in stable condition Wednesday evening.
