DURHAM, N.C. — An investigation into the shooting of a woman Saturday night shows someone likely fired a gun in an upstairs apartment through the floor and the ceiling below and hit the woman, according to a search warrant requested by Durham police.

Police and emergency personnel were called to 412 E. Pilot St. Saturday just before 8 p.m.

A man inside an apartment there said he heard a boom, then came into the living room and saw smoke. A woman in the living room told the man she thought she had been electrocuted, according to the warrant.

The woman had actually been shot in the chest, stomach and right leg, according to emergency personnel.

An officer investigating the shooting found several holes in the ceiling, "consistent with the blast of a shotgun," investigators wrote in the warrant application.

Investigators searched an apartment above, where they found a hole in the floor.

At the time of the search, the upstairs apartment was empty, and the door was unlocked.

Another witness told police she saw a group of men walking in the parking lot of the apartment building immediately after the shot was fired, but police have not identified any suspects in the shooting.
