DURHAM, N.C. — Durham police were investigating a fatal two-vehicle traffic accident that happened Tuesday afternoon on N.C. Highway 54, near Mandy Court and Biscayne Road.

At 3:25 p.m., a westbound Mazda driven by Allyn Hubbard Hunt II, 18, of Durham, collided head-on with an eastbound 2005 Ford Focus driven by Bettie Hall Boring, 63, of Durham, Durham police spokeswoman Kammie Michael said.

Boring was pronounced dead at the scene, Michael said. Hunt suffered minor injuries and a woman riding in his vehicle was taken to Duke University Hospital for treatment of leg injuries.

Alcohol and speed do not appear to be factors in the accident, according to investigators. No charges have been filed at this time and the accident remains under investigation.

The accident slowed traffic on N.C. Highway 54 for more than three hours.
