Fatal shooting in parking lot is Durham's second homicide in less than 24 hours

A man was found shot to death in a Durham parking lot Thursday afternoon, police said.

DURHAM, N.C. — A man was found shot to death in a Durham parking lot Thursday afternoon, police said.

Officers responded to a reported shooting in the 900 block of Fayetteville Street, near Old Fayetteville Street, shortly after 2 p.m. Gregory Christopher Shaw, 22, of Durham, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police said Shaw was shot during an argument.

Roland Richardson Jr., 34, of Durham, surrendered to police Thursday night and was charged with murder in the case. He was being held without bond in the Durham County jail.

Kumasi Stallings, who was operating a barbecue stand as part of a fundraiser near where the shooting occurred, said he heard 15 to 17 shots.

"I was frying fish, and I heard shots and took cover," Stallings said, noting he and his daughter dove behind his pickup.

The shooting was the second homicide in Durham in less than 24 hours.

On Wednesday night, Moncel Deangelo Garrett-Richardson, 21, was shot to death in the 1700 block of Holloway Street. Jonathan Wade White, 19, of Durham, was arrested shortly after that shooting on a murder charge.
