DURHAM, N.C. — Lilly's Pizza in Durham has closed its doors.

Durham blogger Bites of Bull City broke the news on Facebook last week saying a sign was posted outside of the restaurant at 810 West Peabody St. saying the location would be closing May 15.

The owner of the restaurant commented below the post saying that Jamie Greaves would be taking over ownership and renaming the restaurant Peabody Pizza Place. The owner added that the current staff would remain employed there.

The announcement of Greaves as the owner sparked some comments on social media regarding his criminal history.

Greaves was convicted in January of solicitation of a 14-year-old by computer to commit unlawful sex acts and indecent liberties with a minor. The offenses occurred in March 2018. He is now a registered sex offender.

Lilly's Pizza owners posted a comment to the Durham location's Facebook page on Tuesday addressing the issue.

"Lilly’s Pizza of Durham was sold earlier this month and had no knowledge of the current owners' past. We are dismayed by the facts and having used a broker for the due diligence," the post read.

Lilly's Pizza is the 2018 WRAL.com Voters' Choice Award winner for best pizza.
