Durham parks is opening a new place to play this month.

The Discovery High Ropes Course at Bethesda Park, 1814 Stage Rd., offers more than two dozen separate elements in one structure. They include a giant swing, a dual zip-line, and the 55-foot high crow’s nest. It's recommended for ages 7 and up.

The ropes course will primarily be open by appointment only - think team-building events; birthday parties; youth or scout group gatherings; and family reunions.

But there will be some special Discovery High Ropes Days each quarter. There is one a month for the next three months. They are at 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. this Saturday and July 9 and Aug. 6.

Drop-ins are welcome, but pre-registration will ensure a spot. It's for ages 7 and up. Kids must be with an adult. The cost ranges between $7 to $10 per person. For information, call Durham's Adventure Programs at 919-560-4355 or e-mail Ryan.Sailstad@durhamnc.gov.

Durham also will hold a grand opening ceremony at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday. Activities include a tour and demonstration and general information about the course. Some participants will be able to try out the course.
