DURHAM, N.C. — The Durham County Sheriff's Office is offering a $5,000 reward for information that helps them solve the death of a woman found a year ago by a crew of inmates collecting litter on Old Oxford Road.

The litter crew was working about a mile north of Snow Hill Road on June 30, 2010, when they spotted a large plastic bag and found human remains inside, authorities said.

Wanda Rose Spence, 43, of Elmo Street, was last seen alive a week earlier in the area of Juniper Street and North Hyde Park Avenue, authorities said. They used dental records to identify her body.

The sheriff's office never released a cause of death for Spence, but they have been treating her death as a homicide.

Anyone who may have information about Spence's death is asked to call the Durham County Sheriff’s Office at 919-560-0885 or 919-560-0881. All information is treated as confidential.
