DURHAM, N.C. — A Durham man said his car has been vandalized four times since July 3 because of the Black Lives Matter sticker on his windshield.

Shon Green said the latest incident happened Sunday afternoon when his windshield was broken. He’s also received multiple death threats through written letters and social media posts, he said.

Green said the paint on his decals and his broken windshield are the least of his worries. The local activist says it’s the intended message behind these actions that is concerning.

"It’s about more than just the material possessions for me," Green said. "It still hurts to feel like there is a group of people out there that hates us this much to the point that we can’t even say our lives matter.”

Green said he has filed police reports for each incident.

He has asked his Durham apartment complex to put up security cameras for his safety and for the safety of his neighbors, but he said the office refused. Now, he's planning to raise the money on his own. The community has pitched in, raising $1200 so far.

According to Green, he won't stop fighting acts of racism.

"This is a cause that I’m willing to die for," he said. "I’m willing to lay my life on the line, and that’s not just pretty words. Change must be on the horizon. That’s why I’m fighting. That’s why I’m not going to stop fighting and that’s why I’m not going to take the decals down.”
