Durham man killed in Moore County wreck

Gary McLaurin, 50, was northbound on U.S. Highway 1 when his vehicle ran off the right shoulder and he overcorrected, authorities said. The vehicle skidded across the median and overturned in the southbound lanes before sliding off the road and hitting a tree, authorities said.

The wreck occurred shortly after 8 p.m. Monday about 3.5 miles north of Southern Pines, authorities said.

The case remains under investigation, but authorities said alcohol wasn't a factor in the wreck.
