DURHAM, N.C. — A Durham man has been charged in connection with a Monday night crash that left one man seriously injured, police said.

Quintin Denzel McCorkle, 28, was westbound on Hebron Road at about 7:45 p.m. when the left front fender of his 2010 Mazda 3 hit a dirt bike operated by Kevin Rufus Nichols, 41, near the Danube Lane intersection, police said.

Nichols, who was not wearing a helmet, was taken to a local hospital for treatment of serious injuries. Police said it was illegal for him to ride the dirt bike on a city street or highway.

McCorkle fled the scene and was located a few miles away, police said. He was arrested on a charge of felony hit-and-run.

He was also served with a 2020 warrant from Wake County charging him with unauthorized use of a vehicle and a warrant from Durham County charging him with failure to appear in court on a 2017 driving while impaired charge.

The crash remains under investigation.
