DURHAM, N.C. — A Durham man was arrested Thursday in connection with a June shooting in a local parking lot that left one man dead, police said.

A woman who works at a restaurant in a strip shopping center in the 1000 block of East Geer Street found the body of Marco Antonio Estrada-Sandoval, 42, dead inside a black Dodge Durango in the center's parking lot.

Members of the U.S. Marshals Service’s Carolinas Regional Fugitive Task Force arrested Elvin Fernando Lara, 28, in Havelock in connection with Estrada-Sandoval's death.

Durham police said the two men knew each other, but they released no details regarding a motive for the shooting.

Lara was being held without bond in the New Hanover County jail, awaiting a transfer to Durham.

Anyone with information about the case is asked to call Investigator C. Brinkley at 919-560-4440, extension 29322, or Crime Stoppers at 919-683-1200.
