Durham Man Charged in $1 Million Embezzlement
A local man was charged Monday with fraud in connection with the theft of more than $1 million from a business partnership, police said.
Posted — UpdatedJason Kwang Chul Song, 37, of Hunting Chase, was charged with two counts each of obtaining property by false pretense and obtaining property by false pretense in excess of $100,000 and one count each of embezzlement, embezzlement in excess of $100,000 and appropriation of partnership funds by a partner for personal use in excess of $100,000, police said.
Police said Song, who also goes by the name Jason Curtis Rasmussen,diverted more than $1 million from Video Editing Center LLC, where he was part owner.
He is being held in the Durham County Jail on a $3 million bond.
Song also was charged in June 2006 with embezzlement in excess of $100,000 in connection with the theft of about $220,000 from the business and his business partner, police said.
