Durham Man Charged in $1 Million Embezzlement

A local man was charged Monday with fraud in connection with the theft of more than $1 million from a business partnership, police said.

DURHAM, N.C. — A local man was charged Monday with fraud in connection with the theft of more than $1 million from a business partnership, police said.

Jason Kwang Chul Song, 37, of Hunting Chase, was charged with two counts each of obtaining property by false pretense and obtaining property by false pretense in excess of $100,000 and one count each of embezzlement, embezzlement in excess of $100,000 and appropriation of partnership funds by a partner for personal use in excess of $100,000, police said.

Police said Song, who also goes by the name Jason Curtis Rasmussen,diverted more than $1 million from Video Editing Center LLC, where he was part owner.

He is being held in the Durham County Jail on a $3 million bond.

Song also was charged in June 2006 with embezzlement in excess of $100,000 in connection with the theft of about $220,000 from the business and his business partner, police said.
