LOS ANGELES — Calvin Lockett, a 25-year-old resident of Durham, returns to the stage on Tuesday night on The Voice.
Lockett said his journey to The Voice started years ago when he was singing in his parent’s church in Nashville, Tennessee.

Someone who heard him encouraged him to try out for the show.

After moving to Durham, he moved in with his best friend and decided the time was right. "Of course, people think it’s crazy," he said. "People thought I was crazy for wanting to pursue music and leaving Music City, but I just really felt like I wasn’t supposed to be in Nashville anymore."

Lockett first wowed the judges when he performed the Temptations' classic "Just My Imagination" during the show's blind auditions.

He quickly joined Gwen Stefani's team.

On Tuesday night, guest star Taylor Swift will work with the judges as they pair contestants to perform individually against a teammate then select a winner to move on to the live playoffs. The Voice airs at 8 p.m. Eastern time on WRAL.
