DURHAM, N.C. — Durham County commissioners voted unanimously Monday to appoint Chief Deputy Mike Andrews to replace Sheriff Worth Hill, who announced last month that he would step down at the end of the year.

Andrews has been chief deputy for the past three years.

Hill was elected to his fifth term as sheriff last year and has said that retiring will allow him to spend more time with his ailing wife.
