— The Durham Fire Department is investigating an early Sunday morning house fire as arson.

Police said they took a person at the scene into custody but declined to release any more information.

Firefighters responded to a call from a home in the 900 block of North Elizabeth Street at 4:24 a.m. The first firefighters to arrive reported the home engulfed in smoke and flames. Additional fire trucks were then called as a back-up.

Fire burned through the roof of the home and gutted it.

Everyone in the house managed to get out safely.

One firefighter was treated for minor injuries.
