DURHAM, N.C. — A Durham home was damaged after being struck by lightning Friday night.

Authorities said firefighters responded to a home in the 300 block of Excalibur Drive at about 4:50 p.m. and found heavy smoke and flames visible from the roof of the house.

The fire was under control after about 20 minutes, but authorities said the home sustained heavy damage to the attic and second floor.

Authorities determined a lightning strike was the cause of the fire.

No injuries were reported as a result of the fire, but five adults and three children were being assisted by the Red Cross and were unable to return home Friday night.

The incident comes less than 24 hours after a Durham man was struck by lightning while waiting in line for a food truck at a neighborhood party. That man was listed in fair condition Friday.
