DURHAM, N.C. — A Thursday morning crash on N.C. Highway 147 seriously injured a man, police said.

The crash was reported shortly after 7 a.m. in the southbound lanes of the Durham Freeway near the exit ramp to West Chapel Hill Street.

A 2005 Dodge Durango SUV side-swiped the left side of a 2015 Freightliner truck tractor, causing the Durango to run off the road to the left, strike a guardrail and slide sideways, police said. The Durango then flipped in the roadway and came to rest against a guardrail on the far right of the highway.

The driver of the Durango, whose name hasn't been released, was taken to a local hospital for treatment of serious injuries that do not appear to be life-threatening, police said.

The driver of the Freightliner was not injured.

N.C. 147 South at West Chapel Hill Street was shut down for approximately four hours after the crash.

No charges have been filed, but the crash remains under investigation.
