Durham family care home faces fine

DURHAM, N.C. — A family care home in Durham is facing a $1,000 fine for leaving residents unsupervised for two days.

A state panel recommended the fine for Love and Care Family Care Home, located at 217 East Lawson St., is licensed by the state to provide residential supervision for several older or disabled people.

The home left residents alone for two days, during which a legally blind resident cooked for residents and unlocked a schizophrenic resident’s medication for him, according a state report.

The state Department of Health and Human Services will decide whether to approve the fine.
