Durham commissioners approve county budget

DURHAM, N.C. — Durham County's tax rate of .7931 cents per $100 will not change under the 2015-16 county budget approved Monday night.
The $564 million budget, which passed a 3-2 vote, also includes a 2.7 percent funding increase to $123 million for Durham Public Schools and creates a new fire district covering areas previously served by the Bethesda and Parkwood fire districts. The Durham County Fire and Rescue Service District will have a proposed tax rate of 0.130 cents while the tax rates for Bethesda and Parkwood will be eliminated.
