Durham clerk pepper-sprayed during robbery

Two men put pepper spray on a female clerk who confronted them while they were robbing a cellphone store last Friday, Durham police said Thursday.

DURHAM, N.C. — Two men put pepper spray on a female clerk who confronted them while they were robbing a cellphone store last Friday, Durham police said Thursday.

The men came into Hello Wireless, 1213 University Drive, around 1:30 p.m. on June 17 and asked to see a phone, police said. When the clerk returned with the phone, she found one man taking money from the cash register.

The clerk confronted him, then the second man pepper-sprayed her, police said. The duo then ran from the store with an undisclosed amount of cash.

Police described one man as black, about 40 years old, wearing blue jeans and a white shirt.

The second man was described as black, with a dark complexion and in his mid 40s. Police said he was wearing blue jeans, a blue ball cap and a white and blue striped, collared shirt.
