DURHAM, N.C. — Amber Watson started the Bites of Bull City blog, which covers the Durham restaurant scene, six years ago.

Despite the coronavirus pandemic, Watson has been able to continue her blog, highlighting some of her favorite restaurants to get take-out.

"We went (to Bull City Solera and Taproom) and got some great burritos," Watson said. The restaurant, which opened last week features a walk-up window. "They are a taproom that can't have a taproom right now, but they are still selling their canned beers. They've also got soft serve (ice cream)."

In addition to burritos, Watson said she and her family have been indulging in Indian food and hitting up some local sandwich shops for to-go orders.

"Mexican food has been great. NuvoTaco (formerly known as Nanataco), they've been amazing from the start. They transitioned right away before that was even a standard rule. They transitioned to curbside," Watson said.

And if you want a sweet treat, Rockwood Dairy Bars is located right across the street from NuvoTaco.

"They opened it during the pandemic," Watson said. "They have slowly started to introduce more things like milkshakes. They used to just sell pints."

Local food truck El Jefecito also opened the doors at its first brick-and-mortar location during the pandemic. "They have delicious tacos," Watson said.

Watson has been doing weekly features about some of these restaurants on her blog, which was the 2019 WRAL Voters' Choice Awards winner for Best Blog.
Although that category has been eliminated this year, a new Best Social Influencer category has been introduced. The WRAL Voters' Choice Awards nomination period opens on Sept. 14.
