Durham APS: Walk for the Animals fundraiser is still on with social distancing in mind
APS od Durham asks participants to walk their animals in a safe location of their choice while maintaining social distancing.
Posted — UpdatedOn Saturday, May 23 between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m., the Animal Protection Society of Durham is still hosting the walk they had planned -- but instead of gathering in a group together, the society is asking for participants to walk on their own.
Walkers won't totally be alone -- family members who live with the participants and pets can walk too.
The APS asks participants to walk their animals in a safe location of their choice while maintaining social distancing. Local businesses can sign up to be sponsors online.
The APS said in a press release they expect hundreds of people to participate and that taking part in a fundraiser like this is a way to be able to keep these shelters operating.
Shafonda Davis of APS in Durham said a concern for these shelters is more people will try to surrender their animals during a pandemic.
"If it's just a lack of resources, that's something we can help with," Davis said. "We really prefer to keep animals in homes and much as possible."
