Duo charged in fatal Fayetteville nightclub shooting nabbed

A 32-year-old man was shot to death outside a nightclub on Murchison Road in Fayetteville late Wednesday, police said.

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — Authorities have arrested two men in connection with a fatal nightclub shooting, including one connected to another death in October 2009.

Michael Lorenzo Murphy, 28, of the 700 block of Harvey Dale Drive, was charged with second-degree murder, and Rico Lee Miles, 28, of the 500 block of Spaulding Street, with  for accessory after the fact to second-degree murder.

Randolph Phillip Richardson, 32, was shot in the left shoulder and upper chest outside the Sleekarrow nightclub in Fayetteville Wednesday night, police said. He was pronounced dead at Cape Fear Valley Medical Center.

Authorities haven't released a motive for the shooting.

Miles was a person of interest in the Sept. 17, 2009, death of Kenneth Underwood, 49. Genesis Whitted Jr. is accused of shooting Underwood after he kicked out Whitted and another man who were fighting in his home.

At the time, Miles was listed as an absconder from parole. He was subsequently put in jail for seven months, according to state Department of Correction records.

Miles served seven years in prison for 2002 convictions on two counts of armed robbery, records state. He also has convictions for dealing drugs and common-law robbery.

Murphy also has convictions for drug dealing and assault inflicting serious bodily injuries, DOC records show.
