DURHAM, N.C. — Duke University will no longer require students, employees or visitors to wear masks or face coverings while outdoors on campus.

This new rule is consistent with CDC and North Carolina guidelines and covers all students, faculty, staff and visitors, regardless of vaccination status.

The change is effective immediately. Recently, North Carolina Gov. Roy Cooper announced most pandemic-related restrictions in North Carolina will be lifted on June 1, including capacity limits on businesses and distancing requirements.

Masks are still required inside Duke University owned or leased buildings, and while riding a Duke bus or shuttle.
